Hi y'all!
Happy Monday! I can't believe that it's Monday again. When the heck did that happen? This week's topic for Meredith's Monday Musings is all about...instant gratification!
Who here likes getting things right away? Or if a question pops into your head, who likes getting that question answered right away? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then you're probably like me and enjoy instant gratification.
A few months ago, I was watching re-runs of the Brady Bunch. This show took place in the late 1960s, early 1970s. Watching these characters, it made me realize how much our culture has changed into one focused on instant gratification. For instance, if one of the Brady children had an assignment for school, they had to ride their bike to the library, look the information up, read about it, and then they'd have their answer. In today's world, if I had an assignment for school, I could simply pull out my phone, look the information up, read about it, and then have my answer.
So, instead of having to wait that thirty minutes or so, getting to the library, finding the right book, and reading, I got my answer probably within five minutes.
It just seems crazy to me how much quicker we get things that we desire or want to know, than people thirty years ago. To be honest, I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Finding out information right away isn't horrible, but I think it's a contributor of why people are so impatient today if they have to wait to get something.
I know that I get very grumpy if I have to wait to get something. For instance, right now I'm waiting on Amazon to deliver me something. They told me that it was going to take 3-5 days to get to me. Three days has passed and I was a very grumpy person yesterday, when I hadn't received what I wanted, when I wanted it. Hopefully, I'll get it today.
These are just my thoughts. Let me know what y'all think.
Have a great day!
