Hello Everyone!!
I have the very entertaining and sweet Maddie Taylor on my blog today. We're discussing her latest book, Hooked! Let's get started!
Hooked, that's an interesting title. How did you come up with it?
It makes me think of Captain Hook from Peter Pan!
It’s a play off the hero’s
name. Joseph Hooks. It seemed perfect.
It does, now that you explain it. The hero isn't your typical hero. You describe him as nerdy and
one that wears wired frame glasses. Why did you chose to write him this way?
I wrote him as a secondary character in Second Time Lucky. He was representing Mara in her troubles with
the FBI. After the scene, where he is
intimidating, arrogant and behind his nerdy glasses and tweed suit, basically
HOT and unforgettable, I couldn’t get him out of my head. I wrote his story in 5 days.
I agree, Joseph was hot and unforgettable in Second Time Lucky. Hooked is the first book in your Club Decadence novella series.
Who else do you plan to write about?
I have several bouncing around my brain. But the next will feature one of the sadists,
a character briefly mentioned in Book 5.
A good friend of mine is dying for me to write a F/m and feature one of
the Mistress’s. There are also
some awesome characters at The Cage in D.C. who need their stories told
too. So, the sky is the limit. As long as my readers keep gobbling them up,
I can keep serving them up.
Ohhh!! A F/m book, I'd love to read that. I'd also love to read how you would write a sadistic character. How do you make each of these stories different? If I were
writing a club series, I'd be afraid that I'd start to reuse some same
scenarios. Is that ever difficult for you to do?
Not yet. I think if the
characters are compelling and the back story is different, everything stays
fresh. Plus, it helps to take it out of
the club sometimes.
Was it hard for you to keep this shorter than your regular Club
Decadence books? I mean, when you're use to writing epic novels was it hard not
to fall in to that pattern and keep the story shorter than your use to?
I specifically wrote a novella this time. What started out as 32K ended up over
40K. So yes, short is harder, especially
for a story teller who likes well-developed characters and action/drama. I hope I did enough to give a little taste
of the latter but in 40K it is definitely a challenge.
I read it and I can say that you definitely did! You're such a fast writer. Would you like to tell me what story
you're planning on working on next?
Good question. I have 5
active WIPs currently. Book 3 in the
Silverbend series featuring Luke Jackson is under way and will conclude that
trilogy. Club Decadence 6 (Yes, at last
Lil T’s story) is at 80%. I
also have a good start on Decadence LA 2 (a love triangle) and Decadence Nights
2 (the sadist from above) and a Sci-fi.
You pick!
Club Decadence 6! Club Decadence 6 please!! And then SS3. :-) Time for my favorite game...The Five Question Game!
What is your favorite summer activity?
Easy.
Swimming in my pool, rather floating on my pool with a lemon drop and my
Kindle.
I like your favorite summer activity, except the lemon drop part. Lemonade or chocolate milk for me please! What is one of your nervous habits?
I don't think I have one.
I don't bite my nails, and I don't really drink lemon drops when I'm
nervous. I do like to get online and
chat up my girls when I’m having a bad day, but aside from
that I can’t think of one.
When you were ten what did you want to be?
Eleven? LOL I don't remember, but in high school I
dreamed of becoming a lawyer and got a scholarship from the local police
department. When I saw the L-Sat
questions I took a sharp left turn into nursing.
I can't imagine you being a lawyer. What is the fastest story that you have ever written?
Hooked. 5 days. Editing to submission took 3 weeks.
Do you like white chocolate?
Love it. Godiva White
Chocolate is like an orgasm for your mouth.
Do you have a sexy snippet for us today?
Of course..
“Where are you from, Olivia?” Joanna
inquired.
“Call me Livvy, please. All my friends do. I’m
from Austin.”
Mara refilled her drink from the pitcher. “Since
you’re here on an open sub night, bedecked with a ribbon, it’s not a stretch
what you’re looking for. We have a single Dom from Austin.”
Megan shook her head. “I don’t know. She
looks too sweet for Master J.”
The name was familiar, the girl out front
having the same negative reaction.
“That’s the second time I’ve heard his name
mentioned in a not so positive light,” Livvy blurted out. “Is he a hulking
brute or something?”
They all turned to Mara as if she had the
answer.
“You’re asking me?” she replied with
surprise. “How would I know?”
“You know him better than anyone else,”
Megan prompted.
“I know him professionally, not as a
submissive.”
“Tell us what you do know,” Regan prompted.
“All I know is the rumors from the sub
grapevine that he’s a rather strict Dom and partial to the cane.” She paused
for a moment, turning thoughtful while biting her lower lip. “Personally, I
found him rather hard to get a handle on. Fortyish, handsome and extremely
tall, taller than Lil T and Tony, even. He’s extremely intelligent, full of
confidence, but not in an obnoxious way, and has a wonderfully vibrant
infectious laugh. That he wraps it all up in a fuddy-duddy tweed suit, wire
framed glasses and a bow tie on occasion is what throws me off. When Joseph
represented me last year, I nicknamed him the swaggering nerd.” Her hand flew
to her mouth. “I probably shouldn’t have mentioned that. He’s really not a
nerd. More like... conservative, yes. That’s a good adjective for him, better
yet, old-fashioned.”
Livvy stiffened, her stomach doing a flip
flop.
No!
It can’t be.
“What do you do for a living, Olivia?” Lexie
asked. “Maybe you have something in common with Master Joseph. He’s an
attorney.”
“Oh my god!” Livvy bolted out of her chair,
knocking it over. “Are you by chance referring to Joseph Hooks?”
Mara stood too. “That’s him. Do you know
him?”
Hooked Blurb
Thirty-eight-year-old legal secretary Olivia Wright's clock is ticking and she's afraid she's running out of time to find Master Right. Several times she thought she'd found the Dom of her dreams, but instead of the prince she sought, he'd turned out to be a slimy toad. The last one had dumped her unexpectedly and nearly broken her. Now, after a long dry spell, she's ready to try again. She'd really like it to be with the man who'd caught her eye three years ago, but that man is her boss and despite her best efforts, and tightest skirts, he hasn't spared her an extra glance. Resigning herself to unrequited love, she attempts to move on, procuring an invitation to an exclusive BDSM club, hoping Club Decadence will be the answer.
Joseph Hooks isn't your typical Dom. He's NBA tall, with no police or military background to speak of, wears tweed suits, of all things, and on an occasion the dreaded bow tie. But behind his somewhat nerdy appearance is a handsome, green eyed, strict but sensual dominant who's also hell on wheels in a court of law. He's wealthy, powerful, successful, and enjoys popularity among the subs at his private club, at least those who don't flee from the swishing sound of polished rattan, but he's exhausted his search for his perfect submissive and concerned about coming up short. After a frustrating day of watching his gorgeous secretary's delectable bottom in an incredibly tight skirt, he heads to San Antonio to blow off steam and maybe make a connection.
He thinks she's terminally vanilla and straight- laced. She thinks he's not into her, or with the way he ignores her curves and tight skirts, possibly gay. Hopelessly oblivious to what has been staring them in the face for three long years, Joseph and Olivia continue their aimless search for love. Then, one night, as a storm brews outside another rages inside as their paths converge. Will Olivia finally get the Master Prince she deserves, or will her past prevent her from realizing her dream? Will her presence at the club be the sign that Joseph needs to wake up and at long last claim the woman he's yearned for all along?
