Happy Monday! How's your day been going so far? Mine has been going well, for the most part. Today's topic for Meredith's Monday Musing is: Colors!
This topic is pretty hard to describe, but I'm going to try. I love colors, especially vibrant, bold colors. There are some days where I'll go on Pinterest, type in a color, and just look at the different pictures that come up in that color. It's a bit addicting.
I'm not sure why, but it seems like everywhere you look, there really aren't that many crazy colors. If you think about it, the majority of colors that you see are: red, black, white, silver, gray and brown. What is up with that? I don't get it, don't people want more colors in their life?
I wish that car manufacturers would start letting people be able to pick the color of their car before it's painted. For instance, if I purchased a new car, before it was ever painted, I could go in and request that I want my car to be bright yellow with pink stripes down the sides. That would be freaking amazing if I could do that!!
What if houses got a makeover? It would be awesome to see a purple house, then a blue house, then a red one, then maybe an orange one. Do you guys agree with me? Okay, maybe the different color houses is a bit much, but do you guys get my point?
I think that if we had more vibrant colors in our world, people would be more happy. Take a moment and think, how do you feel when you see the color gray, white, black, or brown? To me, those are just dreary colors. But when I think of sky blue, emerald green, fuchsia pink, and ruby red, I feel happy and excited.
Maybe it's just me, but I really do believe that our world would benefit with a splash of color here and there. Until then, I'll keep dreaming about the bright yellow and pink striped car that might be one day. :-)
Happy Monday, Everyone!

Happy Monday! Did everyone have a nice Valentine's Day? I did, I got to see Fifty Shades Darker. :-) Today's topic for Meredith's Monday Musing is: The Fifty Shades of Grey Series.
This book series sure has caused a lot of controversy, especially in our little author community. There are some who seem to think that EL James can do no wrong. On the flip side, there are some that hate this series and strongly dislike EL James for writing it. I can understand both group's reasoning.
To start with the authors who love the Fifty Shades series, I can understand the appeal. EL James wrote the classic story: billionaire meets a nobody, falls in love, they have to face a couple of struggles, and live happily ever after. No one can ever go wrong with that storyline. The fact that EL incorporates some "kinkey fuckery" to the stories, doesn't hurt either. ;-)
Besides being a decent story, Fifty Shades has opened the world to the kinky side of things. I'll admit, before I read Fifty Shades, I had no idea that spanking, bondage, submission, etc existed. I think that many people were in the same boat as me. All authors, whether they love this series or not have to agree that EL James opened the world's eyes to what we write and have helped our readership grow through the years.
Now, I can almost feel the naysayers ready to jump at my throat for writing the last two paragraphs. ;-) So, getting to why I can understand why some authors hate this series, what EL James wrote isn't a healthy BDSM relationship. In the first book, Fifty Shades of Grey, EL dabbles in a domestic discipline relationship and it didn't go over well. She clearly hadn't done her research and got the reasoning for why people live in that type of relationship wrong. After being an author for awhile and going back and reading this series, I cringe at some of the stuff I read. The main hero, Christian, comes off as a major douche bag, stalker, and very selfish person at times. Jamie Dornan, the man who plays Christian in the movies does not help the situation or his character at all with this. So, I can understand why some authors get angry. If a movie was made about something that I lived and was portrayed wrong, I'd be pissed off!!!
Instead of getting angry about EL James' lack of knowledge, I like to think it gives us the perfect opportunity to educate readers on what a healthy BDSM relationship looks like. I'm not sure if all will agree with me on that, but I'm just trying to make lemonade out of the lemons that were handed to me.
No matter if you love the series or hate it, I think we can all agree that Fifty Shades has definitely changed our little community. It has brought many new authors to us and readers, which all in all, is a pretty good thing.
That's all I have for today. Happy Monday, folks!

Today, we have the fantastic Maggie Carpenter over! She's super sweet and just came out with a new book titled, Protecting Paige! I have to say, after seeing the cover and reading the blurb, I'm going to buy my copy RIGHT NOW! Maggie was sweet enough to bring us a snippet of her story, so I hope that y'all enjoy!
As Cole slipped her dress over her head, Holly rolled into him and urgently grabbed at the buttons of his shirt, but grasping her wrists he pushed her on to her back and pinned them on either side of her head.
“We’ve got all night,” he softly murmured, “and I’m going to make the most of every minute. Don’t move.”
Rising to his feet he leisurely stripped, then returning to lay at her side he slid her panties down her legs and popped the front fastener of her bra. As it sprung free he slid it down her arms and tossed it aside, then kneeling over her he gazed at her in wonder; the huge setting sun was cloaking her skin in a golden glow.
“You’re even more lovely than I remember,” he crooned, then straddling her body he sent his grasp back to her wrists, lowered his lips, and began kissing her neck.
“That makes me crazy,” she bleated. “I love it. I love it so much.”
“I know,” he purred traveling his lips across her shoulders towards her breasts. “I remember the things that make you crazy. I’ve relived them many times.”
She moaned in response, and as he drew in her nipples, sucking hungrily, she raised her chest to meet his mouth.
“Remember what I said?” he murmured lifting his head and locking her eyes.
“Ooh, don’t stop.”
“Does that mean you don’t remember?”
“I can’t stand it,” she complained, “remember what?”
“My promise to spank you. I promised when we were together before, and I promised you a few minutes ago. I think it’s time I kept that promise.”
“You’re going to do it now?” she gasped. “Right now?”
“Seems as good a time as any,” he said with a wicked grin, and releasing her wrists, he quickly flipped her on to her stomach and yanked up her hips.
“OH, MY GOSH! What are you doing?”
“You do have an incredibly spankable ass.”
“I can’t believe this! Why do I feel so—”
“So what?” he asked smoothing his hand over her backside. “So embarrassed?”
“Yes, and, ooh, I feel so weird.”
“That’s natural, but I’ll bet…” he said, his voice trailing off as he slipped his fingers between her legs, “uh-huh, you’re soaked, and in a few minutes you’re going to be even more soaked. Now keep still, and don’t shout out like that again.”
“I didn’t mean to, I was just shocked.”
“I know you’ve been craving this.”
“How could I be craving something I’ve never had?”
“Now you’re just being coy. I think I’ll add a few extra slaps for that.”
“Okay, I have,” she said quickly, “but it’s weird and I don’t know why.”
“There is no why. It’s just how God made you, and I’m the other side of that coin. Are you ready?”
“Nope, I need more than that.”
“Are you ready?”
“Yes, I’m ready.”
Though her voice had been filled with trepidation, he’d also heard excitement, and raising his hand he brought it down with several quick slaps, not hard, but carrying a sting that would not disappoint her.
“I said no shouting.”
“Here, bury your head in this,” he suggested, reaching for her dress and handing to her.
“You mean I’ll need to?”
“You might. I won’t spank you too hard, but it’s still going to hurt.”
“Unless you’d rather I stop. Do you want me to stop, Holly?”
“Uh, no…no I don’t.”
“Right then, roll up your dress and bury your head.”
Though he didn’t think her yelps or the sound of his smacking hand would carry around to the rocky point to Jack’s ears, having her muffle her squeals in her dress added some extra spice to the moment, and waiting until she was settled, he began to land his slaps in an easy rhythm as he traveled his flattened palm across her cheeks. When she began to squirm, he moved his slaps lower, and after adding a few good swats to her sit spot, eliciting a series of mewling cries, he paused and ran his hand over her warm pink skin.
“How are you feeling?”
“Please will you touch me?” she begged, turning her head to look at him over her shoulder.
“That was not the answer to my question,” he said firmly, delivering a solid smack to the center of her bottom. “How are you feeling?”
“OW, did you have to do that?”
“And again,” he declared landing another hard slap.
“How are you feeling?”
“My ass is stinging, how do you think I feel?”
“I can’t believe you just said that,” he muttered, shaking his head and grinning at her nerve. “Anything else?”
“Yes. I feel…”
“Go on, everything. Tell me everything.”
“Cole, I love it. I mean, I don’t but I do. I really do, I just don’t know why.”
“We don’t always need to know why we like something, now close your eyes and feel my hand rub away the burn. That was your introduction.”
